Trivia & History

The production was on layoff between closing at that Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles on August 19, 972, and re-opening at the Royal Alexandra in Toronto on September 11, 1972. Several days were used to rehearse Theodore Bikel, who replaced Hal Linden as Mayer Rothschild when the production opened in Toronto. Bikel had played the role in a stock tour during the summer of 1972 so relatively little rehearal was needed.
