Some sources say that the role of Gen'l Longstreet was eliminated before the show opened on Broadway, but the character name and the name of the actor in the role, Clay Clement, appeared in reviews with a thorough cast list. At least one critic specifically Clement. When Clement left the show, not long into the run, the role was eliminated, but the character and the actor seem to have been there on opening night.
