See MoreAlthough some later accounts stated that David Burns died onstage at the Forrest Theatre during the pre-Broadway tryout, contemporary accounts stated that he collapsed onstage when he had a heart attack but that his death occurred approximately a half-hour later at Jefferson Hospital. He was temporarily replaced by his understudy, Coley Worth. At the start of Broadway previews, Hans Conried took over.
