Trivia & History
The production officially opened on Friday, February 1, 1918. Perhaps because the producers preferred the reviews to appear in the Friday newspapers rather than the Saturday newspapers (since more people read the Friday newspapers than the Saturday ones), a number of critics attended an invited dress rehearsal on Thursday, January 31, 1918, rather than opening night. The reviews of those critics appeared on the day of the opening. In addition, at least some critics whose reviews did not typically appear the day after a show's opening attended that dress rehearsal.
