There was a theatre squeeze in London that caused the production to close while it was still doing decent business. Song of Norway was booked into the Palace, and there was no other theatre availabe at the time for Gay Rosalinda to move to. The production toured for a few months and then returned to play a West End return engagemen at the Princes, where it opened on August 8, 1946.
