Trivia & History
Cyril Ritchard, who directed this production, was to have played Osgood Fielding, Jr., which he had played in the Broadway production. At the last dress rehearsal before what was to have been the only preview, Ritchard collapsed, due to a heart attack. Understudy Joe Ross was rehearsed. Gale Gordon was hired to take over. Ross played the role during the extended preview period till Gordon was ready.
