When the production opened, Vera Bryner was the alternate for Patricia Neway in the demanding role of Magda Sorel. Bryner played the role on Monday nights and Wednesday matinees. When Bryner the left the production, there was a week when there was no alternate. During that performance week — Monday, August 7 through Saturday, August 12, 1950 — Neway played all eight performancess. On August 14, Bruni Falcon became the alternate, playing the same schedule Bryner had played. For two weeks starting on September 4, 1950, Bruni played Magda Sorel eight times a week, while Neway was on vacation.
