Ethel Merman was not in the production when it opened out of town. The production was originally supposed to open on Broadway by late August, but a second tryout engagement, in Newark, was added to allow additional work. The Newark run started on August 24, 1931. Merman joined the cast on August 31, the beginning of the second and final week of the Newark run.
Ethel Barrymore Colt was in the revue when it opened its first out-of-town run in Atlantic City on August 10. Her role was reduced when Merman joined the cast, and she quit the production. She returned, with less to do in the show, on September 5, the last day of the Newark run.
