Trivia & History

Opened in 1886, designed in an Italian Renaissance style by Birmingham architect Oliver Essex.
Shortly after opening, a major fire killed two people and caused substantial damage to the building. After being rebuilt, it became a popular venue for touring companies and pantomime.
The theatre closed in 1950 and was later converted into a ballroom.
