Trivia & History

Originally built as a theatre/restaurant, it soon became a regular theatre.

Demolished in 1982 following a bitter battle with protestors along with the Morosco, Astor, Victoria and Bijou to make way for the Marriott Marquis Hotel (which houses the Marquis Theatre).

Some sources list a seating capacity of 895, but the capacity was listed as 1,164 in Variety during the runs of most of the later shows that played there. The publication Stubs, which had seating charts of Broadway and Off-Broadway theatres, also listed it at 1,160 in the 1979 edition.
