The lyric heard in the original Broadway production is by Richard Wilbur. This has not been heard in any major productions or revisions after the 1973 revision with a new book by Hugh Wheeler. That production instead used a different lyric by John Latouche, written for the original production but cut before the Broadway opening, probably prior to rehearsals. It is that version which has been heard in all major productions since 1973.
