Synopsis

In spring 1917 Moscow, street singer Aniuta becomes a rallying figure amid revolutionary unrest, while Prince Volodya finds himself drawn to her conviction and hope. Rival schemes and shifting loyalties force them apart as turmoil sends friends and foes to Paris. Between crowded rallies and glittering salons, both confront the cost of idealism and class divides, deciding whether love can endure exile, danger, and the remaking of a nation.

Trivia & History

The Russian folk songs listed are known to have been performed by a group called The Russian Art Choir. We have been unable to trace any credits for these songs and have, therefore, listed them as 'Traditional'. Titles shown for the first group of four are from the 78's credited to the show on the label and recorded at the time of the show. These songs were performed a capella. It is not known if all four songs were performed together or if they were interchanged using only one song in that spot. It is also possible that they could have been used as background in other spots in the show. The 1930 film version also contains contains many 'traditional' Russian folk songs and dances, but none of the film songs appear to be any of those used in the stage version.
