According to Sheldon Harnick, Actors Equity gave the company permission to get together in a studio and make a cast recording of the production without the cast getting paid, as they usually would be for making a cast recording. Permission was granted on the assurance that the record would be distributed only to the cast and authors and production team. Years later — probably in the 1980s — someone who had gotten hold of a copy pressed additional copies, and they were distributed for sale in a small number of record stores.
