Alice Borden was originally announced for the role of Cinderella. We do not know if Bernadette Peters replaced Borden during previews or while the show was still in rehearsal, but as late as Sunday, December 4, 1966, five days before the first preview, Borden was still listed in ads, while Peters was not. The show was originally scheduled to open on December 22. It seems possible that the delay to December 26 had to do with the recasting of the central role.
