There were changes made to the score after opening:

  • "Buck Up to Me" was added after the Act One Opening. It was sung by Mose, Grit and the company. It was replaced during the run by "Teasing Mama" sung by the same characters.
  • "Pining" was dropped during the run.
  • The "Washboard Ballet" was dropped during the run.
  • "Exhortation" was replaced by "Exhortation Theme from Yamekraw Negro Rhapsody" sung by Mose and the Jubilee Glee Club.
  • "Harlem Rose" was dropped during the run.
