Hazel Flagg

Original Broadway Production (1953)

Trivia & History

Five months into the run, the show closed down for a summer hiatus, which was not an especially unusual thing to do at the time. It re-opened with some cast changes and some changes to the score, but it ran for only three weeks when it re-opened after Labor Day. There had also been changes to the score before the summer hiatus.

Judy Holliday and Judy Garland were both considered for the title role. Alfred Drake was courted to star as the male lead.

The production played a Thursday matinee opening week, after having opened the night before. There were previews on Monday and Tuesday before the opening on Wednesday evening.
