After playing to good houses in several East Coast cities, the tour booked an open-ended run at the Great Northern in Chicago, where tours of Broadway shows sometimes could run for months. Despite being championed by Chicago's leading critic, the influential Claudia Cassidy, it shut down after four weeks. The closing was blamed, at least partly, on the production playing in a theatre with no air-conditioning during a spring heat wave.
