Doctor Yurii Zhivago is a man divided against himself: on the one hand a dedicated husband, father and healer; on the other a poet, dreamer and sensualist. His struggle is set against the backdrop of the Russian Revolution.

There was talk of a London production shortly after the Australian production opened. Producers said that it was dependent on available theatres and director Des McAnuff's ability to make changes (his schedule permitting). As of April 2011, producers thought that it would be at least 12 months before any decisions were made.
