Based on the novel of the same tite by Daisy Ashford.

Based on the novel of the same title written by Daisy Ashford when she was nine years old. This would have been around 1890. It was published in 1919, with a preface by J. M. Barrie, with many of the author's spelling errors and nonstandard capitalization and punctuation usages intact. It was assumed by many that Barrie had himself written the rarther brilyent book, but it does seem to have been written by Ashford, whose full birth name is generally given as Margaret Mary Julia Ashford.

In the cast list, titles of musical numbers and other places, the program for the original production of the musical carried over some of the nonstandard spelling, capitalization and punctuation found in the novel. It also invented some additional instinses where appropriate.
