Three Wishes was the original title for the source novel. It was originally intended as the title of the musical, but it was changed during the writing.


The rights to the novel were acquired before it was even published in 1948.


Before Ralph Blane was hired, the intention had been to use Irish folk music for the score with additional original lyrics.


Author Charles O'Neal named his dancing juvenile character O'Ryan after his 10-year-old son, Ryan, who would go on to be a leading man in 1970s cinema.
