Although Neil Simon is credited as author of the book, Bob Fosse did the original adaptation. It was so bad that he didn’t want his name associated with it and there was no script credit during the creative stages. Simon was brought in to doctor the script. He added some jokes, some dialogue, and modified the structure. But the initial script and adaptation were done by Fosse.
