This, the first version of the BLACKBIRDS revues, had its roots in DIXIE TO BROADWAY. This was a tried and true revue format which had worked well during the Twenties. This first edition began in Harlem where it ran for six weeks before moving on to London and a tour of Europe. After the tour (and the death of Florence Mills) the revue was put into Lew Leslie's New York nightclub 'Les Ambassadeurs', on West Fifty-seventh Street.
