Trivia & History

Since no original program was available, the program of the 1968 Charlottetown Festival production at the Royal Alexandra Theatre, Toronto, was used for the song list since it was the earliest program it was possible to trace. It is believed that this is most representative of the available recordings. While the "Nature Hunt Ballet" and "Pageant Song" were not listed, they have been placed in the song list where they are normally performed.

In the London production the titles "Great Workers for the Cause", "The Picnic" and "Pageant Song" are not in the program. While "Kindred Spirits" remained a replacement for "Bosom Friends" in all later productions, "When I Say My Say" reverted back to the first version of "The Words" following London.

For the New York City Center production, all songs except "Bosom Friends" and "When I Say My Say" were performed.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, a film adaptation was planned for 2014 in anticipation of the 50th anniversary of the premiere. (9/9/2013).
