Trivia & History

The recording is of a Happy End suite, put together by David Drew, featuring all the surviving numbers except "Bilbao-Song." Drew put together the suite for concert-performance purposes.

The recording, featuring David Atherton conducting the London Sinfonietta, was originally issued as part of three-record set of Kurt Weill's music, issued by Deutsche Grammophon. It has been reissued on two CDs. The two-CD issue includes everything in the original three-record set.

The other works in the set are Kleine Dreigroschenmusik, Mahagonny Songspiel, Das Berliner Requiem, the Concerto for Violin and Wind Orchestra, "Pantomime I" from the opera Der Protagonist, and Vom Tod im Wald.

To our knowledge, this recording of the Happy End suite has never been issued apart from its appearances in the two issues of the set, although several other works from the set have been issued on either a single LP or single CD.
