Joel Grey was originally only supposed to be out until the middle of October. However, it took him longer to heal from the fractured foot than anticipated.
During his absence, the playbill insert for Creighton said that "And now playing the part of Moonface Martin" instead of "At this performance." This led to speculation on message boards that this would be a similar case to Grey's sudden departure from Wicked in 2004.
