It was announced on May 23, 2015, that Tom Nelis would be taking over the role of Anton temporarily but no explanation was given for why Roger Rees needed to leave the production for a time. Nelis had played a number of performances by that point (perhaps all of the performances going back to at least May 15).
On May 30, this announcement was issued by producer Tom Kirdahy that “Roger Rees is undergoing a treatment for a medical condition and while the prognosis is bright, he’s currently unable to perform in the show. He’ll be back onstage as soon as he can and we can’t wait to welcome him back."
