Original Broadway Production (1979)
The Best Plays of 1979-1980 lists Sept. 3, 1979 as the date that Marge Redmond starting playing Mrs. Lovett during Angela Lansbury's vacation, and it lists Sept. 12, 1979, as the date of Ms. Lansbury's return. We list the starting date as Sept. 4 because Sept. 3, 1979, was a Monday, and the show was dark on Mondays. We're leaving the final date of Ms. Redmond's stint in the role at that time blank since we believe Ms. Lansbury returned on Sept. 11, 1979, which would have made Ms. Redmond's final performance that week as Sept. 9, 1979. At the present time, however, we can't be positive about that. We do, however, list Sept. 12, 1979, as the date of Ms. Lansbury's return, even though we believe it may have been the day before.
