Although Sheila Smith was in the show (as Meredith Lane), she was billed as standby, rather than understudy, for Alexis Smith and Yvonne De Carlo. When Marion Marlowe replaced Smith as Meredith Lane, she was also listed as standby (rather than understudy) for Smith and De Carlo, and this held true when Terry Saunders replaced Marlowe.
