Originally scheduled to open on March 22, 2020 (Sondheim's 90th birthday). However, after nine previews, the production was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Previews resumed on November 15, 2021 with Sondheim in attendance shortly before his death.
The company dedicated the entire run of the show to Stephen Sondheim, who passed away during previews.
