The second preview was cancelled when a water main burst in the basement of the Marquis Theatre.
When the original principals\' contracts were up, the producers chose to close the show rather than replace them. Before deciding to close, they had hoped for a starry set of replacements. Antonio Banderas, Marc Anthony, Enrique Iglesias, Ramin Karimloo and Raul Esparza were all being considered to play Che, though they were not able to reach any deals. Additionally, Lea Michele and Sierra Boggess were possibilities for the role of Eva (although the producers declined to comment on whether or not either actress was approached).
The production failed to recoup its investment. It would have had to play 63 weeks to return the initial investment. It only played 46 weeks.
Budgeted at $9M.
