Trouble in Tahiti was presented as the opening section of a three-part show titled All in One. Part two was a solo tap-dance concert by Paul Draper. The third part was Tennessee Williams's one-act play 27 Wagons Full of Cotton, with Maureen Stapleton as Flora Meighan, Myron McCormick as Jake Meighan, and Felice Orlandi as Silva Vicarro, directed by Vincent J. Donehue. There were intermissions after Trouble in Tahiti and the Draper program.
Draper's program comprised:
- "On the Beat," to music by Couperin
- "Alcina Suite," to music by Handel
- "Tea for Two," the famoous song by Vincent Youmans
- "Dance Without Music"
- "In a Dance Hall," employing songs by Cole Porter
- "Satire on a Political Speech"
- "Improvisation"
Draper's accompanist was John Colman.
The production of Trouble in Tahiti did not emply Bernstein's orchestrations. The score was played four musicians: two pianists (Joseph D. Lewis, Urey Krasnopolsky), a drummer (Max Rich), and a bass player (Leonard Gaskin). No musical director was credited.
The production of Trouble in Tahiti had originated the previous summer at the Westport Country Playhouse, where it was performed on a double bill with James Thurber's Thirteen Clocks. At Westport, Richard Eastham played Sam, but David Brooks directed and Alice Ghostley played Dinah.
Although Pat Campbell (later known as Patton Campbell) was credited with the costumes for All in One, there were also credits for the following costumes used in Trouble in Tahiti: "Miss Ghostley's grey dress and Miss Brigham's dress designed by Sylvan Rich; Miss Ghostley's print dress by Molly Parnis; rain ensemble and coat by Mainstreet; housecoat by Saybury."
