Liza Minnelli was to have played her last performance on Saturday, July 14, 1984, and Stockard Channing was to replace her two days later, on July 16. Minnelli played her last performance on July 2 or 3, although this was not announced to the public at the time. Standby Mary Testa took over until Channing was ready to start performances. Channing started two days earlier than originally intended, playing both the matinee and evening performances on July 14.
On opening night, "Coda" was not included in the playbill's list of musical numbers but it was added to the list soon after the opening.
