Barbara Cook had played Victoria Bascombe in the premiere production of this show. She was originally announced for the Broadway production as well and her name appeared in some early advertisting, but Variety reported the following in its issue dated September 13, 1972:

“Margot Moser has succeeded Barbara Cook in the Sidney Michaels-Mitch Leigh Broadway musical, Halloween. Miss Cook withdrew from the cast, says management, for ‘personal reasons not involved with the production. The show, with David Wayne and Dick Shawn costarred, preems in late Oct. 17 at the Martin Beck Theatre, N.Y.”

A Broadway opening had been announced. The first announcement had it scheduled to open around October 17 at the Martin Beck. It was soon pushed back to October 30. Then it was announced that the production was being “indefinitely postponed,” which, as noted by Variety in a brief article on the postponement (in the issue dated October 18, 1972), “in most cases . . . means the end of the project.”
