Trivia & History

Closed after 199 performances due to Miss Burnett's illness. The production reopened on February 15, 1965. It closed permanently on April 17, 1965, having played a total of 271 performances

According to Steven Suskin's The Sound of Broadway Music, Ralph Burns was hired as the sole orchestrator, but he was also working on Funny Girl (also by composer Jule Styne, who was producing Fade Out—Fade In in addition to writing the music). When the out-of-tryout for Funny Girl was extended so that considerable additional work could be done on it, Burns was not available to Fade Out—Fade In. Ray Ellis became the primary orchestrator, but with Fade Out also undergoing considerable revision, several other orchestrators were called in to help.
