It was first recorded in January 1962 by girl group The Crystals, lead vocal by Barbara Alston, produced and arranged by Spector. It was released as a March 1962 single from Spector's Philles Records (45rpm, catalog number 102). The same recording was later included on The Crystal's debut album Twist Uptown, released August 1962.
