Originally, Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra were cast as Julie and Billy. Garland was replaced due to her unreliability as a performer and individual. Sinatra made it all the way to the first day of filming. However, upon arrival he was displeased to learn that they would be shooting twice, once in 35mm for standard release and once in 55mm for Cinemascope. He stormed off the set saying some variation of "You don't get two Sinatras for the price of one." As a result, Sinatra ended up filming Can-Can to fulfil his contract.
