David Carradine was cast in the leading role of Johnny Pot. He appeared in the role for most of the preview period but was replaced by his understudy two days before the opening. A spokesman for the producers was quoted in the New York Times as saying that Carradine "had to be let go by the management because of artistic differences over the interpretation of the role."
Co-produced by the actress Gretchen Wyler, who had just formed a production company (Wyler Productions).
