In March 2013, SOFA Entertainment, which owns the rights to the Ed Sullivan Show, sued producers Dodger Productions for their use of a seven-second clip. Dodger claimed fair use. The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in California ruled that Dodger was free to use the clip.
