- The Jazz and Angel Band were cut, possibly at the suggestion of Herman Shumlin and Lillian Hellman, over the objections of Julius Rudel, principal conductor and general director of New York City Opera. New York Times music critic Howard Taubman wrote in his favorable review that he felt the cut was a mistake.
