Played Broadway previews on Tuesday evening and Wednesday evening (but no matinee on Wednesday) before opening on Thursday, May 18, 1961.
Kipp Hamilton was cast in the leading female role of Ellen Roe Danaher but illness caused her to be replaced by Joan Fagan, who had been hired as her understudy, before the out-of-town opening in Philadelphia. A story circulates that she returned to the role at some point, we can find no evidence to support this. A playbill from closing week of the Broadway run lists Fagan in the role.
Bruce MacKay left the production within a week and a half of the opening on May 18, 1961. He left to play Nat Miller in a Music Fair circuit tour of Take Me Along, which opened its first engagement on June 2, 1961. He was replaced by Burt Bier.
