Russell Nype was given a 12-week leave of absence to make a film that was to have been titled Young Man in a Hurry. Shortly after filming started, he was replaced by Glenn Ford. The leave started on August 13, 1951. According to a report published in the New York Times on September 13, 1951, Nype bowed out of the film after "a disagreement with executives of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer over certain characteristics of his performance in the role of a small-town lawyer in a big city." The film was released with the title Young Man of Ideas. The film must have undergone some other major changes because it had been announced that Elsa Lanchester would play a major role in the film, but she was in the film as released (and it does not seem like she was replaced but simply that whatever she filmed was cut).
Perhaps because Jeff Warren had been contracted to replace Nype for a full 12 weeks, Nype did not return to Call Me Madam until the end of his scheduled absence.
