A Broadway opening had been scheduled for Nov. 21, 1976, at the Martin Beck. An original cast album was to have been recorded and released by Motown Records but plans were cancelled when the show closed in Washinton, D.C., several days before it was to haved started previews on Broadway.
Understudy Michael Quinn played Aimable for a week at the Kennedy Center between Topol's last performance in the role and Paul Sorvino's first performance.
It has sometimes been erroneously reported that Loni Ackerman played Genevieve for a brief time between Carole Demas's last performance and Patti LuPone's first. Understudy Teri Ralston (who usually played Denise) did play several performances of the role, and it seems that she is the person who played during the break between Demas and LuPone.
The list of musical numbers on the main page for this production is what appeared in programs for the Los Angeles run. The "Chanson" was not the song later added to the show that was sung by Denise.
