Trivia & History

For the first London production, book writer Arthur Laurents, who also directed the production, wrote a monologue to be added to Louise's second-act version of "Let Me Entertain You," using the new title "The Strip." Louise's lines there have been further revised in successive Broadway revivals.

Some sources have incorrectly stated that Stephen Sondheim wrote two new choruses for "Together" for this production. He did wrote part of a new chorus, but not two whole new choruses. The opening number was retitled "Let Me Entertain You" and a minor title change was made from "You Gotta Get a Gimmick" to "You Gotta Have a Gimmick." These changes were also used in some later revivals.
