The production was not presented in repertory as part of the regular subscription season of the Lyric Opera of Chicago. It was presented at the end of the season and the company was not performing any other works at the time.
The production was originally announced to close on May 11, 2014. Some time prior the first performance, the run was extended to May 18. After the opening, the run was extended to May 25.
Although some of the pre-opening press about the show seemed to suggest that the production would use the version used in the 1998 Broadway revival, the production did not end up doing so. As many regional productions have done, it stuck more closely to the original version, with the only major changes being the addition of "I Have Confidence" and the replacement of "An Ordinary Couple" with "Something Good." A couple of brief transition scenes from the original version were cut.
