Trivia & History

The cast list is taken from the playbill published on the first preview.

Producers soon decided that Kristen Vigard's genuinely sweet interpretation was not tough enough for the street-smart orphan. After a week of performances, Vigard was replaced by Andrea McArdle, who played one of the other orphans, Pepper. Vigard went on to become McArdle's Broadway understudy.

The production was originally scheduled to run through September 26, but the run was soon extended a week through October 3. This happened despite generally negative reviews. Despite the reviews, the production was selling out within a couple of weeks.
