Love Life

Original Broadway Production (1948)

Trivia & History

Limited Partnership "Dish for the Gods & Co." was filed with the New York County Clerk's office on August 17, 1948. By that time, the show was titled Love Life and not the original title, Dish for the Gods.

In January 1949, the show was doing poor business and it looked as though closing was imminent. Kurt Weill, Alan Jay Lerner and Michael Kidd waived their royalties for two weeks to help. This occurred for the weeks ending January 15 and 22.

There were plans to mount a production in the West End immediately following the opening of the London production of Brigadoon (in April 1949). The plans were centered around consolidating trips to England for producer Cheryl Crawford and lyricist Alan Jay Lerner.
